Vineyard La Richemone

These Richemone vines were planted in 1902 - so the intensity and depth is not surprising - but still staggering. This is great. Gentle attack of high-toned red fruit. Awesome acidity delivered so discreetly - so well integrated it is barely there. Intense fruit is loaded with concentrated mature red fruit flavours, some darker plum flesh too. Structure builds gently and steadily. Sophisticated stuff. Slowly slowly power builds, floral and beautifully textured. None of that Nuits heft. Fine, elegant and long. Persistent not pushy. Some grip on the finish to remind you this is serious - but in the palate it is all so harmonious. A 'wow' wine. L&S (Nov 2019)

(from vines first planted in 1902). Here too the animated nose is prominently spicy with its array of poached plum, violet, rose petal and sandalwood aromas. There is more volume and power if a bit less refinement to the punchy and well-detailed flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a sappy mouthfeel on the powerful, highly complex and manifestly persistent finish. Drinking range: 2033 - Rating: 91-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

Cask sample. Lively and energetic. Savoury with a more vegetal (though not green) note than the Moreys. Glamorous but not flashy wine. Drinking range: 2028 - 2045 Rating: 17.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a complex bouquet that combines red and black fruit, brown spices, sea cave and light oyster shell aromas, all very well delineated. The palate is defined by svelte and supple tannins, finely pitched acidity and a very elegant and disarmingly pure and persistent finish. This is an outstanding wine from Perrot-Minot, with huge potential. Drinking range: 2022 - 2048 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
