PULIGNY MONTRACHET

2018 Joseph Drouhin

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Burgundy
District Côte d'Or
Sub-district Côte de Beaune
Village Puligny Montrachet
ABV 13.5%

A subtle application of wood frames a ripe but elegant and well-layered nose that consists of aromas of essence of pear, white flower and hints of citrus. There is excellent vibrancy and slightly better detail to the appealingly textured if not especially dense flavors that evidence a subtle minerality on the precise, focused and beautifully complex finale for a villages level wine. This possesses the class of Puligny and overall, this is really quite good. Drinking range: 2024 - Rating: 90 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2020)

Tastes like a Puligny from altitude - quite tight and with the phenolic grip and intensity of the vintage. Needs to open up but all there. Drinking range: 2021 - L&S (Nov 2019)

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Village is more muted on the nose compared to the Chassagne, offering fleeting green apple and nettle aromas. The palate is fresh on the entry, although it never quite kicks with the same intensity as its Chassagne sibling. Steely and reserved. Drinking range: 2020 - 2026 Rating: 87 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Cask sample. Intense and ripe green fruits on the nose. Creamy pears and a mealy lees character. Deep and much richer than the Chassagne. Lovely richness and freshness in balance. Deep fruited with a long caressing but fresh finish. Drinking range: 2020 - 2026 Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2019)

Joseph Drouhin

Despite the size of their vineyard holding, not all Drouhin's wines come from their own domaine, but most of the other wines do come from long-term contracts, such as exists with the Marquis de Laguiche wines. In all but name these wines are 'Domaine' wines, and the vineyards are cared for and the wines vinified with exactly the same care.
