A bit dumb on the nose after the characterful Clos Vougeot, palate is rich, dense and surprisingly tender. There's a lot of wine here and it needs time to sort itself out. Great - but a long way to go. L&S (Nov 2019)

The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a lifted, perfumed, slightly exotic bouquet with orange blossom filtering through the red fruit. Lovely transparency here, though I would not describe it as "complex". The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, structured and lightly spiced, a dash of black pepper and sage. Just a little dryness towards the baked red cherry and raspberry coulis-tinged finish, otherwise this is a seriously fine, quite aristocratic Richebourg. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. Drinking range: 2025 - 2050 Rating: 95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2022)

(from a .6 ha parcel). The airy and overtly spicy nose reflects an abundance of floral influences on the red and dark currant aromas. The mid-palate of the big-bodied flavors is surprisingly supple, even succulent, though this impression contrasts with the firm, serious and robust finish where the tannins are again slightly raspy and mildly drying. As is the case with several wines in the range, my projected rating accords the benefit of the doubt this will eventually harmonize. Drinking range: 2023 - Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of ebullient blackberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit entwined with crushed stone and wild hedgerow aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, firm tannins and well-integrated new oak. Fresh and lightly spiced with black pepper and savory notes toward a finish that is tremendously persistent. Bon vin! Drinking range: 2023 - 2045 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
