Surprisingly the Fremiets is lighter and fresher than the Chevrets, a cooler expression, even if the fruit is just as vivid. Again pure and long, intense and balanced. L&S (Oct 2019)

The 2018 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru has a powerful nose with burly red fruit. Quite New World in style, a hefty slab of toasty new oak that unfortunately subjugates the aromatics. After five minutes the VA begins to dominate. The palate is sweet and saccharine on the entry, rather cooked and figgy with a finish that is more Pinotage than Pinot Noir. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. Drinking range: 2022 - 2024 Rating: 85 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2022)

A restrained if clearly ripe nose is comprised by notes of cassis, black cherry, violet and pretty rose petal hints. The sleeker and more refined is perhaps not quite as concentrated flavors also possess a seductive texture and even more minerality, all wrapped in a mildly warm and youthfully austere finale that is slightly firmer. This too is lovely. Drinking range: 2028 - Rating: 91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2020)

The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets exhibits lovely aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with orange rind, spice and raw cocoa. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and fine-boned, from more calcium-rich soils than Les Chevrets and built around bright acids and fine, chalky tannins. Drinking range: 2025 - 2045 Rating: 93 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

Domaine Henri Boillot

A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.

The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
