50% whole bunch. It nearly all comes from just below les Bons Batons in Chambolle, with just a small bit in Nuits. A little dumb on the nose, but the palate is a different story, supple and fresh, a délice in it's sappy texture and fine tannins. Lovely juice. Good acidity at the finish making it just that bit more serious. Drinking range: 2023 - 2027 L&S (Oct 2020)

Mostly from sub-Chambolle vines plus a whisker in Vougeot, Morey and Premeaux. The Chambolle vines are Bons Batons and Au Pelson, ex David Clark. Bright dense red purple, with a deep sweet succulent fruit. Tense fresh fruit with some opulence. Quite high acidity as well. 50% whole bunch Tasted: November 2020 4/5 stars Rating: 86-88 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge, blended with 50% whole bunches, has quite a high-toned bouquet with a mixture of black and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy in the mouth with a nicely composed, slightly figgy finish. Drinking range: 2022 - 2025 Rating: 85-86 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Domaine Lignier-Michelot

A domaine of 11 hectares, 25% regionals, 50% Villages, 20% Premiers crus and 5% Grands Crus. Virgile Lignier worked at the domaine with his father Maurice from 1988, beginning to bottle some of the wine from 1992 (it had previously been sold to the négoce), taking over in 2000, which was the vintage when he first bottled all the domaine's production.

In the vineyard Virgile made significant changes, stopping the use of herbicides, and beginning to plough instead. Green harvesting to limits yields followed, along with greater attention to grape selection. The domaine works organically except in extremis.

The wines have a lovely combination of enough body and richness, combined with a lively clarity of expression. The old vines village cuvées are seriously good, and great value too. Going up the scale each site seems to speak very clearly of its source and there is a brightness and energy along with full, seamless fruit.
