CHÂTEAU FEYTIT CLINET

2019 Pomerol

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Pomerol & Lalande de Pomerol
Village Pomerol
ABV 13.5%

The 2019 Feytit-Clinet is superb. In most vintages, Feytit-Clinet is one of the more intense and tannic Pomerols. In 2019, though, some of that intensity is dialed down. On the plus side, though, that means the 2019 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Inky dark fruit, licorice, graphite, lavender, dried herbs and rose petal build into the sumptuous, creamy finish. Usually I advise cellaring Feytit-Clinet, but that will be less necessary in 2019. As always, Feytit-Clinet is one of the most distinctive wines in the Right Bank. Drinking range: 2026 - 2044 Rating: 95 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Feytit-Clinet has a stunning bouquet of pure red fruit, crushed stone and light rose petal scents; a hint of black truffle emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good depth, the 70% new French oak a little more prominent than usual at the moment, though that will be subsumed with time. Very balanced and persistent, this is a bolder style of Feytit, but Jeremy Chasseuil pulls it off. Drinking range: 2024 - 2050 Rating: 95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

Always a well-judged and balanced Pomerol from owner Jeremy Chasseuil. As it unrolls, it majors on poised but punchy loganberry and blackberry fruit, with slices of fennel, black pepper and cinnamon spice. Well judged but still present oak notes. 70% new oak. A yield of 42 hl/ha. Drinking range: 2026 - 2044 Rating: 95 Jane Anson, Decanter (Jan 2022)

The 2019 Feytit Clinet rolls sensuously from the glass with notions of baked plums, Black Forest cake and blueberry preserves with touches of Chinese five spice, potpourri, dusty soil and garrigue. The medium to full-bodied palate bursts with ripe, rich black fruits, supported by plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and spicy. This 6.68-hectare vineyard is situated between Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol on gravel and sand-based soils. Rating: 93-95 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com (Jun 2020)

Château Feytit Clinet

Jérémy Chasseuil took this property in hand in 2000, and the wines have got better with every passing vintage, truly showing the potential of this tiny 6.5 hectare property, set right in the heart of Pomerol (close to Clinet, Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol). It's on gravelly-sandy and clay soils and planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with vines that average over 30 years old. Despite the name, and the statement "mis en bouteille au chateau" on the label, there is no château, just a small well-equipped chai.
The grapes are hand-picked before fermentation in concrete and steel vats, where they spend four or five weeks before the wine is run off for the malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is aged for around 18 months is up to 80% new oak barrels.
