Thibault's parcel here goes all the way up to the top and perversely there is more depth of soil at the top than the bottom, where it is close to the rock. 40% whole bunch this year, more than he's ever used before, to keep the fresh tightness. It's on Oxfordian limestone which is very old and not as active. Juicy and thick-textured, it is quite slow off the mark, but the interest does slowly come, and it stays long with thick depth. Drinking range: 2028 - 2038 L&S (Oct 2020)

(40% whole cluster but without the central stem). An overly floral nose is suffused with a variety of aromas that include dark currant, plum, spice, earth and sauvage hints. There is fine volume to the very suave and generously proportioned flavors that are at once caressing yet powerful, all wrapped in an austere, firmly tannic and impressively long finale. This could be approached after say 7 to 8 years but its Corton roots make sure this will need 15 to 20 years to fully resolve. Drinking range: 2034 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

The rows run from top to bottom of the vineyard so this wine should show the whole expression of Renardes. There’s more soil at the top than bottom. 40% whole bunch, much more than usual. Rich dark raspberry fruit here, dark chocolate notes too but scarcely interfering with the stricter structure of Corton, very good length. Good wine. Tasted: November 2020 **** Rating: 92 - 95 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru, which contains 40% whole bunch, has a pleasant bouquet of brambly red fruit, red currant and undergrowth aromas. The smooth palate is well balanced with a slightly lactic entry and touches of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit. I feel the 100% new oak may be a little trop for this cuvée, hence my prudent score. Drinking range: 2023 - 2038 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs

The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
