2019 Gigondas Font de Tonin 80% Grenache 20% Mourvedre from the foothills of the Dentelles at 350-500 metres benefitting from longer cooler ripening period, this is the best expression of the domaines vineyards plated in the early 1960's. Thierry follows whole bunch clusters in most vintages, believing that when the stalks are ripe they help balance the wine, add freshness and perhaps keeps the alcohol in check you'd have to agree that the wines do wear the alcohol well. Dark and concentrated, vibrant and juicy with redcurrant, roasted meats, sage & garrigue, white pepper and spice, explosive and energetic, a wine for the ages, incredible purity and power, fantastic, it has new oak evident but it is all in balance. A definite keeper, will drink really well in 5 - 8 years. L&S (Oct 2021)

Deep magenta. Pungent red and blue fruit, floral, garrigue and white pepper aromas show fine definition and are complemented by suggestions of vanilla and smoky minerals. This Gigondas is alluringly sweet, focused and chewy in the mouth. Juicy black raspberry, bitter cherry, spice cake and lavender flavors deepen steadily through the mid-palate. Clings with impressive tenacity on the youthfully tannic finish, which leaves succulent floral and exotic spice notes behind. Made with all whole clusters. Drinking range: 2026 - 2035 Rating: 94 Josh Raynolds, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2023)

Domaine la Bouïssière

Thierry and Gilles Faravel's Domaine la Bouïssière in Gigondas is exceptional in many ways, apart from the personality of Thierry himself, it is the site of the vineyard, high up under the 'Dentelles de Montmirail' which makes the defining difference.

In contrast to the vines being baked on the plains of stones at the foot of the hill, the Bouïssière vines benefit from cooling air at night falling from the high peaks, and the wines retain a freshness and subtle persistence which is very different to the sometimes bludgeoning broadness and alcoholic heat of the wines on the plain.

Gilles and Thierry Faravel employ non-interventionalist practices to make wines as naturally as possible, resulting in wines of immense concentration and depth, with true vibrancy and the capacity to age for ten to fifteen years.
