2019 Chardonnay Hunting Hill

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin New Zealand, North Island
ABV 14%
Vineyard Hunting Hill

As we tasted through the line-up of these 2019s - the Hunting Hill stood out for its open feel and instant charm, The broad and expansive nose leads to a lively palate. Intense and nicely concentrated - with great acid pep and fruit bite. This has a long, fun time ahead - but is already hard to resist. Nice lick of cream in the back. Creamier feel and really pleasing. This will charm all comers. L&S (Aug 2020)

The 2019 Chardonnay Hunting Hill is a compact, sappy style that really drives home. It's a wine that knows where it's going with its lime bitters, nectarine, restraint, balance and line. A youthful wine that you could enjoy now for its drive and complexity but will benefit from further bottle age and develop slowly and gracefully over the coming decade and perhaps more. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 95 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (Sept 2024)

This wine manages to walk the tightrope of richness and finesse, and it does it with swagger. It's no surprise that this powerful, highly concentrated Chardonnay was fermented in new oak barrels after a hiatus in 2018 – it certainly has the stuffing to take it. Hunting Hill is Kumeu's most reductive Chardonnay but its influence remains subtle, bringing the merest flint note and added tension to the nectarine and lemon peel flavors. Poised and well judged. Drinking range: 2020 - 2026 Rating: 95 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (Nov 2020)
