A very stony and mineral vineyard. Lovely nose - bright and pure with a ruby-like clarity to the top-note, it's slimline, focused, with 'enough' concentration and weight. Very linear and pure. Drinking range: 2026 - 2038 L&S (Oct 2020)

Mingling aromas of small berries and cherries with hints of orange rind, loamy soil and cinnamon, the 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru La Riotte is medium to full-bodied, layered and polished, with powdery tannins, lively acids and elegantly chalky back-end grip. Glowing even purple with a very heady nose, real charm here, an explosion of fruit, dark raspberry, white pepper and fresh mineral finish, sweetly ripe fruit all across the palate, perfectly poised and inviting more. Just under the little park in the centre of Morey. Cask sample. Very bright crimson. Quite muscular. Really lovely and quite supple but the village wines are so good, I’m not seeing a dramatic step up! (Though admittedly the Nuits is a blend of premiers crus.) Hint of cassis and smokiness and a tad more structure than the village wines. Very clean and lively with some whole-bunch influence on the finish. Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” Visit Website
