A fine bright mid purple, beautifully elegant perfumed nose, really this is lovely. The fruit is juicy, the acidity stays fresh, the length is impeccable, the 2019 almost challenges the 2020. I know how much Olivier likes his white wines from this vineyard, but let us hope that he never chooses to switch out the pinot grapes he has here. Tasted: November 2022. (a .28 ha clos with vines that average ~45 years of age; from yields of only 20 hl/ha with 90% whole clusters in 2019). This is also markedly floral in character with its cool, pure and beautifully layered aromas of earth, underbrush, red and dark currant and pretty spice whiffs. There is lovely verve to the delineated and almost delicate middle weight flavors that brim with minerality on the balanced and sneaky long finale. While this fine effort has the stuffing to reward a decade plus of cellaring, it could probably be approached after only years or so. This too is recommended. Aromas of rose petals, violets, raspberries and plums mingle in an inviting bouquet, introducing Lamy's 2019 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières (Rouge), a medium to full-bodied, lively and perfumed wine built around succulent acids and powdery tannins. Domaine Hubert Lamy
Olivier Lamy has built on the solid foundations his father Hubert prepared with twenty years and more of work in the vineyards. Today the Domaine has 18.5 hectares of vines - 80% are Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. The vines are in several appellations - Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, as well as the excellent Bourgogne Blanc. The reputation of the domaine is now made, but the Saint Aubins, both red and white, remain some of the bargains of Côte d'Or, and challenge the supposed superiority of the grander village names on a regular basis, both in terms of young and mature wines.
Olivier's wine-making style and preference is to emphasise the fresh and the mineral side of his wines, and there is very little new wood in this cellar, with many wines with no new wood at all, and that is with the wines in 600 litre demi-muids rather that the classic Burgundy (225 litre) fût. Certainly Oliver's whites do have an arrow-like purity and intensity, and seem to age completely straight and true.
The reds are worth more than a casual mention too. Olivier has been getting some consultation help from Sylvain Pataille, and the wines have energy and bounce along with the supple tannins and ripeness.

The Clos Rousseau class shows in the bluer colour, the lifted mineral side, the finesse of the tannins. Altogether very elegant and fine - dancing compared to the earthier Comme - and very long.
