A mid purple colour with a perfumed elegance to the nose. Some liqueur cherry on the palate, with quite a firm underlying tannic structure. This will take a little time to reach its apogee but the promise is indicated by the clean and precise finish, albeit with a certain warmth. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: September 2023. Rating: 90 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Nov 2023)

A slightly riper and even spicier if slightly less elegant aromas of violet and plum introduce bigger, richer and more powerful flavors that still manage to remain refined and particularly so on the stony, youthfully austere and impressively long finish. As is often the case with a fine Frémiets, this should repay 10 to 12 years of cellaring while being accessible after only 5 or so. Lovely. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2021)

The 2019 Volnay Fremiets 1er Cru has a delightful bouquet with vivacious Morello cherry and blueberry aromas underpinned by fine mineralité. The palate is well balanced with quite a spicy entry, a fine bead of acidity, finely structured but showing a slightly feral finish. I can abide that - this is a fine and dare I say, "fun" Volnay from Boillot. Drinking range: 2023 - 2035 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2021)

Domaine Henri Boillot

A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.

The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
