CHÂTEAU CAMENSAC

2020 Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Haut Médoc

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification Cru Bourgeois Supérieur
ABV 13.5%

The 2020 Château de Camensac has a reserved nose, with damp earth and light tobacco scents that unfurl with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with raspberry and wild strawberry on the entry, admirable weight on the mid-palate and fine backbone and grip on the finish. This is a well-crafted Bordeaux with the substance to age. Given the price, this represents great value. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drinking range: 2027 - 2045 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2024)

Savoury bilberry, loganberry and raspberry frut, tomato leaf, liqourice, logangerry, soft but present tannins that caress the fruit, adding a welcome extra layer of interest. Graphite, crayon, mint leaf, grilled sandalwood, this enjoyable, not trying too hard to be overly serious, will age well but no need to wait the full 10 years. Harvest September 10 to 25. Valentin Perrot technical director along with cellar master Christian Alquie. 40% new oak. Drinking range: 2026 - 2044 Rating: 92 Jane Anson, Decanter (May 2024)

The 2020 de Camensac is a beautiful, Cabernet Sauvignon-driven Haut-Médoc loaded with savory intensity and energy. Dried herbs, tobacco, menthol, plum, chocolate and earthy notes all run through this classically build, mid-weight Haut-Médoc. Give the tannins a few years to soften. This is impressive. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Château de Camensac has an attractive nose with ample red berry fruit, brown spices, cedar and light earthy aromas. The Merlot is very expressive here (47% of the blend). The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and very well judged acidity. This is classic Haut-Médoc, cool and refined with a saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. One of the best wines from the estate in recent years. Highly recommended. Drinking range: 2027 - 2042 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)
