The 2020 Couvent des Jacobins has a very Left Bank-oriented bouquet, perhaps due to some Cabernet Franc in the mix. Fresh and detailed, there is a subtle marine influence that comes through. The palate is medium-bodied, well balanced and quite old school in style, with fine tannins and notes of cedar and dried blood (andouillette?) toward the finish. This should mature very well in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drinking range: 2027 - 2048 Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2024)

Dark chocolate, bark, dried flowers, cherries, walnuts, crushed stones and orange zest on the nose. Graphite, too. Textured, mineral and expansive with a full body and firm, chalky tannins. Broad yet focused. I like the cool freshness at the end. Best yet? From organically grown grapes. Try in 2026. Rating: 95 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2023)

The 2020 Couvent des Jacobins has come together well. It remains a big, deep wine. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, licorice and copious new oak are all dialed up. This is not at all subtle but it’s a style that works well here. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Couvent des Jacobins has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, blueberry and light floral scents. I admire the delineation and focus, which are pretty nuanced for the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, classic style and impressive sapidity. Displays a well-structured and persistent finish. Excellent. Drinking range: 2027 - 2042 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)
