CHÂTEAU DOISY VÉDRINES

2020 2ème Cru Classé Barsac

Grapes Sauv, Sémillon
Colour White
Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Barsac
Classification 2ème Cru Classé

The 2020 Doisy-Védrines has a more backward nose than the Doisy-Daëne and needs a little more coaxing. Dried honey and candle wax scents gently unfold in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening and lovely weight, though not as concentrated as the Daene, yet there is a deft touch of spice on the aftertaste. Drinking range: 2025 - 2055 Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

This is another overtly tropical number with a lovely honeyed core and a floral appeal, too. Nice and clean and with frisky acidity, this is a delicious wine and it will drink well and also hold, too. Rating: 17.5+ Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jun 2021)

The 2020 Doisy-Védrines is wonderfully effusive. A whole range of floral notes open first, followed by scents of tangerine oil, mint, ginger and spice. There is something about Doisy-Védrines that is quite exotic in 2020. Such a classy wine. Drinking range: 2026 - 2045 Rating: 92-94 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jun 2021)

The 2020 Doisy-Védrines has an elegant bouquet, well defined and perhaps more poised than recent vintages from this Barsac estate. Dried honey, orange pith and light marmalade notes gradually unfurl in the glass, followed later by hints of candle wax and lemon verbena. The palate is well balanced with a lovely touch of orange zest that counterbalances the rich, honeyed fruit, and superb tension on the finish This is a wonderful Doisy-Védrines. Drinking range: 2025 - 2055 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2021)

Château Doisy Védrines

Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
