60% Grenache 40% Mourvèdre. Much darker in the colour, the Mourvèdre really jumps out, roasted meats, garrigue, rosemary and sweet violets, textured and powerful, ripe tannins too, the new oak is a little dominant but will integrate in time. A crowd pleaser, ticks all the boxes, very nicely done, a lovely wine and will be great over the next 8-12 years. L&S (Jul 2022)

A more Mourvèdre-heavy blend, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Renaissance is 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre that has the Grenache brought up in tank and the Mourvèdre in new barrels. It's always a more modern styled wine in the lineup, yet it holds onto ample Southern Rhône style and has a meaty, complex, peppery style as well as medium to full body, ripe, building tannins, good purity of fruit, and outstanding length on the finish. It shows a kiss of new oak, yet there's unquestionably enough fruit to handle it. This is a beautiful vintage of this cuvée. Rating: 93-95 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Nov 2021)
Domaine de Cristia
Based around Courthezon and taking the name from the lieu dit 'Cristia', Domaine de Cristia was established by Etienne Grangeon in the early 1950s with just two hectares of Grenache. His son Alain joined the domaine in the 1960s. It was Alain who slowly started to increase the vineyard holdings and plant Syrah & Mourvèdre to complement the Grenache that makes up the majority of the estate.
Today the estate is in the very capable hands of Etienne's grandchildren, Baptiste, Dominique and Florent, who joined in 1999. They have nearly 19 hectares based mainly in the sandy soils around Courthezon. All the vineyards have been certified since 2008, with a biodynamic approach also being followed.
The vineyards are mainly northeast facing so benefit from not getting too much hot sun during the early part of the day, with the sandy soils lending freshness and elegance that is the hallmark of their cuvées.
