The soils of this are deeper at the top of the slope than the bottom - there's a sort of step on the rock under it. The rock is very old (Oxfordian), and it has been degraded by time and water, so it's not so active as the harder Jurassic limestones around Nuits. This is as attractive as usual - powerful but fine, authoritative, good tannins packed with flavour on the finish. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 L&S (Nov 2021)

Here too there is just enough wood to comment upon setting off the earthy and not quite as elegant aromas of violet, newly turned earth, dark currant and pretty spice wisps. The velvety and round larger-scaled flavors possess focused power and very good depth on the balanced and persistent finale that is just a bit firmer. Patience. Drinking range: 2035 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Containing 40% whole cluster, the 2020 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru is well-defined on the nose with touches of white pepper and bay leaf infusing the red fruit, light touches of cassis emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, quite silky opening, a pinch of black pepper and clove courtesy of the stem, though I am seeking a little more depth and swagger on the finish. Hopefully it will just gain a bit of grip and grit during its élevage. Drinking range: 2025 - 2045 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs

The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
