100% whole bunch. While the nose is not yet 'made', the palate shows an incredibly accomplished cuvée of Gevrey. A really gorgeous treat of texture, which is fine and silky, good volume, black fruit - Virgile remarks that this is arguably not a great terroir, 'but with a little effort...' Drinking range: 2026 - 2037 L&S (Nov 2021)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

(from Les Seuvrées, Creux Brouillards and Les Murots). Slightly riper aromas of poached plum, cassis, violet and earthy nuances give way to intense, detailed and muscular flavors that display both moderate rusticity and austerity on the solidly complex and lingering finale that is sufficiently structured to repay up to a decade of cellaring. Drinking range: 2027 - Rating: 88-91 Allen Meadows, (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée Bertin" is 100% whole bunch this year. It has a welcoming bouquet with more red than black fruit, touches of cassis developing in the glass, the oak neatly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, good depth, though here, it needs to muster more complexity and tension on the finish. Maybe for this cuvée I prefer the previous vintage. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, (Dec 2021)

Domaine Lignier-Michelot

A domaine of 11 hectares, 25% regionals, 50% Villages, 20% Premiers crus and 5% Grands Crus. Virgile Lignier worked at the domaine with his father Maurice from 1988, beginning to bottle some of the wine from 1992 (it had previously been sold to the négoce), taking over in 2000, which was the vintage when he first bottled all the domaine's production.

In the vineyard Virgile made significant changes, stopping the use of herbicides, and beginning to plough instead. Green harvesting to limits yields followed, along with greater attention to grape selection. The domaine works organically except in extremis.

The wines have a lovely combination of enough body and richness, combined with a lively clarity of expression. The old vines village cuvées are seriously good, and great value too. Going up the scale each site seems to speak very clearly of its source and there is a brightness and energy along with full, seamless fruit.
