This is also slightly reduced and about all that can be discerned is moderate wood toast. The medium-bodied flavors are rich to the point of opulence with an abundance of sappy dry extract that coats the palate on the overtly saline, balanced and lingering finish. From a south-facing site characterized by deep, water-retentive black clays, the 2020 Montagny 1er Cru Vigne du Soleil bursts with aromas of sweet orchard fruit, fresh peach, pastry cream and white flowers. Domaine Maxime Cottenceau
A brand new Domaine, as young Maxime Cottenceau sets out on his solo career, having worked extensively with Vincent Dureuil.
The family have always been members of the Buxy co-op, but Maxime has seen what can be done and is clearly ambitious - even his first set of wines in 2018 were impressive, but with the 2019s he has really hit his stride. Volumes are tiny for now, but this is a domaine that will grow rapidly with more vines coming on stream each year, It has a very strong future.
Maxime has learned from Vincent, making wines with 'noble reduction' and these are intended to be long-term wines - if drinking young, he recommends opening a little ahead of time, or even a quick decant.

Lovely lifted white flower nose with just a touch of ripeness to the fruit which makes it so inviting. Satisfying rich on the palate, but finishes fresh and long. This is so well balanced and already delicious to drink.
