2020 Pinot Noir Elgin

Grapes Pinot Noir
Colour Red
Origin South Africa, Elgin
Village Elgin
ABV 13.5%

This is an absolute belter of a wine from Jean Smit. Gloriously aromatic with strawberry and dark cherry fruit, spice and mocha. The mouthfeel is succulent and layered with red fruit, dark chocolate, earth and just a touch of truffle. L&S (Mar 2022)

Moya Meaker

Canadian businessman and former owner of Bordeaux’s Chateau Gaby, David Curl married South African born Genevieve Hamilton-Brown which ultimately led them to Elgin where they acquired a farm called Habibi, planted mainly to apples but also including small parcels of Pinot Noir and Shiraz, the resulting wines named after Genevieve’s late mother Moya Meaker, who was crowned Miss South Africa in 1959.
