Rich and harmonious nose of dark fruit. Supple and incredibly fine on the palate, a hint of sucrosity matched by minerals and salinity - a playful balance, very relaxed and effortlessly classy. Such fun - you just don't want it to end. Drinking range: 2021 - 2040 L&S (Nov 2021)

Blackberries and black currants mesh with violets and sweet herbs on the nose. The palate turns a bit darker with fresh mushrooms and damp earth. There's even an exotic whiff of incense. There is terrific sap and energy here with lean, svelte tannins and racy acidity aplenty for longevity. This comes from 60- to 70-year-old vines in Les Véroilles, positioned between DRC and Leroy. Deft but perceptible wood sets off the ripe and fresh purple fruit and super-spicy nose. The supple and equally delicious but solidly concentrated mid-palate immediately tightens up while displaying excellent length on the youthfully austere, muscular and robust finish that makes clear that this is built to reward long-term cellaring. An even glowing purple colour. The bouquet is exquisite, perfect dark purple fruit, in balance, nothing heated here. Raspberry remains the principal fruit descriptor, both succulent and fine at the same time, a smooth wave across the palate, the oak entirely incorporated, just a point of acidity at the back, some peaches too but only an iota. Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
