We offer free nationwide delivery on all orders over £150 (excluding Highlands & Islands). Express Delivery options also available.Full bottle 1,616 g. 55% Pinot Noir, 31% Pinot Meunier, 14% Chardonnay. TA 8.3 g/l, dosage 5.2 g/l. 22 months sur lattes. This really does smell like the English heirloom apple Worcester Pearmain, which is deep-blush red and smells (and tastes) like raspberry-soaked apples – apple raspberries. Leadley and Driver have got the dosage just right. Just enough sweetness to uplight the fruit. Just enough to bring a strawberries-and-cream, Eton-mess indulgence to the wine. The bubbles are super-fine and there are faint acciaccatura crush notes of angelica, tarragon and nigella. Silken. Drinking range: 2024 - 2030 Rating: 17 Tamlyn Currin - www.JancisRobinson.com (Sept 2024)
Always Meunier led, and blended in the dark so the team aren't dictated by creating the perfect rosé colour. That said, it's a gorgeous and delicate colour. The nose is remarkable, so pretty - tea roses (the titular Wild Rose indeed!), mulchy strawberries and plum skins. The palate is so pure, the fruit is incredible with the weight of the 2020 vintage, but with this incredible long salty lick running through the core. Simply fabulous, either for aperitifs or as a partner for slightly spiced food. L&S (Sept 2024)
The 2021 Extra Brut Wild Rose, made from 55% Pinot Noir, 31% Pinot Meunier and 14% Chardonnay grown in the chalk soils of Hampshire's Test Valley, spent almost two years on lees and is pale pink. It presents an enticing citrus note on the nose, revealing freshly baked bread crust and juicy redcurrant with more air. The palate is svelte yet concentrated, focusing on a midpalate that beautifully synthesizes rye bread, lemon and tart redcurrant, all supported by fine mousse. This wine offers elegant dimensions beyond fruit with beautiful resonance and depth. Disgorged: February 2024. Drinking range: 2025 - 2034 Rating: 91 Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous.com (Feb 2025)
Black Chalk
Black Chalk is the passion project of Jacob Leadley. Started in 2015, Jacob started making wines in this beautiful corner of the Test Valley in Hampshire when he was still making wine at Hattingley. The first wines were released in 2018, and in 2020 his assistant at Hattingley, Zoe Driver, joined him and they've never looked back
Here, they are making some of the most exciting wines in England, in a meticulous and charmingly nerdy fashion. Across the 4 vineyards they own, they are working with 34 clones of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Précoce, and Pinot Gris, each with their own profile. However, most important of all is the solid chalk found beneath the shallow soils here. Many fishermen will recognise the Test Valley, famed for its chalk streams, but this great hunk of chalk beneath the vineyards is key to the purity and precision found in these wines.
We are incredibly excited to be working with these elegant, unique wines, made by a small but incredibly passionate team.
Equinox English Sparkling | Mixed 6
The Spring Equinox English Sparkling Mixed Case: The New ClassicsThere is a sentimental magic to the Spring Equinox. It is the moment the earth shakes off the winter; the days stretch longer, the ground bubbles with life, and throughout the vineyards of England, it marks the official start of the growing season.
To celebrate the arrival of spring, we have gathered a 6-bottle case of the absolute finest English sparkling wines available.Driven by our cool climate and magnificent chalk soils, the best estates in the country are producing wines of such tension, complexity, and age-worthiness that they regularly vie with their counterparts in Champagne for the top rankings.
Winemakers here are no longer trying to copy Champagne; they are celebrating their own unique, wild terroir. Their fresh, crystalline profiles are the perfect antidote to the heavy wines of winter, capturing the brilliant, crisp energy of a spring morning.
What's Inside the Mixed Case:
2020 Trouble with Dreams, Sugrue: Crafted by Dermot Sugrue, this wine is bursting with soul and a gripping, mineral intensity.
2018 Rosé Ex Machina, Sugrue: Another magnificent creation from Dermot Sugrue, showcasing his absolute mastery of the South Downs.
NV Rosé Brut, Nyetimber: Nyetimber is one of the original visionaries of English sparkling wine, boldly planting the three classic Champagne varieties in West Sussex back in 1988. Their beautiful NV Rosé Brut offers a creamy, red-fruit profile with an edgy, saline finish.
2022 Brut, Herbert Hall: From a sunny, organic site in Marden, Kent, farmed by the Hall family for three generations. Uniquely, a portion of the blend is fermented in oak barrels, giving the wine a superb, gastronomic texture.
2022 Classic, Black Chalk: The brilliant Jacob Leadley works with the pure chalk of Hampshire's Test Valley to bring the best out of 34 different clones and rootstock combinations, creating focused, saline, and incredibly pure wines.
2021 Wild Rose, Black Chalk: This wine was awarded 95 Points and Best Sparkling Rosé at the last WineGB Awards.
With their bright, orchard-fruit profiles and lip-smacking freshness, these wines are the ultimate companion for the warmer spring days ahead.
Spring Starter Collection
There is a specific moment every year when the grey sky finally cracks, the air softens, and the heavy, brooding red wines of winter suddenly feel entirely out of place. As the evenings begin to stretch and the promise of the first al-fresco lunch becomes a reality, the social calendar inevitably starts to fill up.
To mark the change of the season, we have curated a premium 12-bottle collection designed to dust off the palate and refresh your cellar. Rather than a random assortment, we have selected twelve spectacular wines from our absolute favourite independent growers, showcasing a range of styles that represent the benchmark expressions of spring.
Starting with two sets of exceptional bubbles—because one bottle is never enough for your first spring dinner party—this case is the perfect host's secret weapon.
Highlights from the Spring Collection: Franck Bonville Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru NV: The celebratory fizz. Grown across three Grand Cru Côte des Blancs villages (Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger), this beautifully balanced Champagne offers creamy, fine bubbles with notes of lemon, grapefruit, and oyster shell.
2021 Black Chalk Wild Rose: The elegant ice-breaker. From the chalk soils of Hampshire's Test Valley, this 95-point Gold Trophy-winning English sparkling rosé blends Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. It is incredibly pure, with notes of tea roses and a long, salty mineral core.
2024 Sancerre Chavignol, Domaine Delaporte: The spring classic. The Delaporte family are masters of Sauvignon Blanc; under Matthieu Delaporte, they farm organically and keep sulphur to the barest minimum. This textured wine bursts with aromas of crushed chalk, orange blossom, and ripe citrus fruits.
2024 Valpolicella Classico, Ca' La Bionda: The bouncy red. A remarkable effort from this certified organic estate, offering a beautiful perfume of strawberries and cherries alongside a juicy, succulent palate of gently ripe, silky red fruit.
Alongside these four highlights, the 12-bottle case also includes outstanding seasonal selections like the saline Picpoul de Pinet from Domaine Reine Juliette, a bright Albariño from Adega dos Eidos, classic White Burgundy from Domaine de la Denante, and sophisticated Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan . You have endured the winter. Treat yourself to the ultimate spring starter kit and find your new seasonal favourites before everyone else loots the shelves.
