Transparent garnet. Vegy nose but not to excess and really rather appetising sweet, but not superficial, fruit. Then light, dry tannins on the end. Nice! A charmingly ripe, red fruited Pinot from Elgin. Moya Meaker's five blocks of Pinot Noir are stretched across a single south-facing slope basking in the warm South African sun. Elegance is maintained from cooler summer days, bringing delicate floral notes to the soft fruit and subtle spice. A wonderfully silky texture surrounds a surprising depth and length. Canadian businessman and former owner of Bordeaux’s Chateau Gaby, David Curl married South African born Genevieve Hamilton-Brown which ultimately led them to Elgin where they acquired a farm called Habibi, planted mainly to apples but also including small parcels of Pinot Noir and Shiraz, the resulting wines named after Genevieve’s late mother Moya Meaker, who was crowned Miss South Africa in 1959.
