Oliviero never stops finessing how he makes this perennial favourite of ours. With 2021 he has reached new heights and this he puts down to his use of Amphorae for a small proportion of the juice. He explains this adds purity and bounce to the fruit. And it is certainly a winning formula! The nose is tight with pear and gentle spiciness. The palate has good breadth and is nicely layered with rich fruit, pear again, with of red berry and lemon zip. The feel though is super - a touch creamy and spicy, good length underpinned with a fresh bright line. L&S (Jun 2022)

Certified organic. Biodynamic farming. Part in tank. Part fermented in big amphorae with 40 days on the skins (hence Ramato). Pale pink, definitely a vin gris. Floral, peachy, fragrant. Tannins are slight and subtle despite the time on the skins, just giving some firmness to the texture. Juicy, fresh finish. The Pinot Grigio Ramato has always been a sumptuous, rosé-tinged wine from Visintini, and the 2021 was on top form today.Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jul 2022)

Azienda Agricola Visintini

Founded in 1973 by Andrea Visintini, this twenty-four hectare estate has vineyards in Collio, Collio Orientali and Grave del Friuli, and is now controlled by the new generation of Oliviero and his twin sisters Cinzia and Palmira. The wines are beautifully made, each with wonderful expression of both the grape and the 'terroir'. Vineyard practices are now entirely biodynamic, and certified this year. These wines are also extraordinarily good value in what is generally a highly priced region.

With the 2014 vintage the family have unveiled the brilliant new labels for each of the wines - with the beautiful botanical drawings of flavours or fruits that relate to the flavour profiles in each different varietal. The wines are great too - in a far from straightforward vintage - beautiful fruit definition and lovely bright minerality.
