Pierre Gaillard makes some of the most distinctive round and ripe Condrieu, always on the riper spectrum of fruit flavours and the 2022 continues in this style, fruit forward, fresh and bright.L&S (Oct 2023)
Aged for 7–8 months in fine-grained Allier and Nevers oak barriques, max 10% new, with weekly bâtonnage. Tasted blind. Very attractive nose, showing vanilla, nectarine, anise and chamomile. There is both power and elegance here, some gentle acidity gives freshness to the wine – peach, spice and white flowers. Enjoyable and has a real drinkability to it. Domaine Pierre Gaillard
Pierre Gaillard's passion for wine-making developed at an early age when he was discovered ploughing in the vineyard with a plough horse when only twelve years old. After studying oenology at Montpelier he went on to work for a large estate in Côte Rôtie where he steeped himself in the 'terroirs' and traditions of this famous vineyard. In 1981 he bought his own vines in St Joseph and revived the 'Clos de Cuminaille', an ancient vineyard dating back to Roman times. Since then he has bought vines in both Côte Rôtie and Condrieu.
