80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. 30% new oak. 14.4% alc. 10000 bottles were produced. Merlot was picked between 1 – 7 October and Cabernet Franc on the 9 September. There is strictness and control in La Chenade, which is quite beautiful. Quiet, composed and perfectly judged, this is a textbook Durantou creation underpinned by discreet minerality, delicious florals and a sleek mid-palate. Bursting with wild tones and class, it never gets ahead of itself, falls out of line or becomes too excitable. It maintains its elegance all the way to the crisply tannic finish. There is no need to rush into this wine, as it has mouth-watering tension that will keep it bright for at least a decade. Rating: 17.5 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (May 2023)

La Chenade
One of the brightest stars of Pomerol is undoubtedly Denis Durantou of the highly acclaimed Château l’Eglise-Clinet. Thankfully this glory is not enough for Denis and he also has a smaller estate in the less esteemed Lalande de Pomerol. Here Denis' skill and experience can produce magnificent wines that are a fraction of the price. The property is Château les Cruzelles, where he makes both Les Cruzelles but also La Chenade, another Lalande-de-Pomerol cuvée from the younger vines. He was even making this with Cruzelles’ grapes before he bought the estate in 2000. We champion this wine every year on primeur as it represents such consistently good value for money. Beautiful Bordeaux wine at an incredibly fair price - a rare gem.
