"It has something special about it," says Arturo de Miguel of this remarkable 0.75-hectare parcel planted in 1920 and brought back from near abandonment in 2013. Rightly recognised as one of the world's great wines, this is a field blend of Tempranillo, 9% Graciano, 6% Garnacha and 5% Palomino. Floral, refined but concentrated at the same time, it has some subtle reduction, succulent tannins, sweet bramble, plum and wild strawberry fruit, a hint of garrigue and a long, satisfying finish. Drinking range: 2028 - 2035 Rating: 97 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Feb 2025)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

#8 in the 2024 Top 100 Wines of Spain. It starts off closed, but after 30 to 40 minutes in your glass, it starts to bloom, with purple flowers, lavender, minerals, blue fruit, wet stones and a touch of iodine. This is profound and aromatic at the same time. Super juicy and compact, with tense and bright tannins. Still austere in style, as with the rest of Artuke's wines, but there are more polished tannins in his grand cru wines, namely La Condenada and El Escolladero. Tempranillo, around 20% graciano and the rest is garnacha and some palomino fino. Planted in 1920 at 550 meters in Baños de Ebro. Drink or hold. Artuke

These wines from Rioja are rooted firmly in their terroir. Artuke is all about small scale, biodynamic production: twenty two hectares of vines spread over thirty two plots between the stunning, hilly villages of Baños de Ebro and Abalos on the upper terrace of the river Ebro in La Rioja Alta, Northern Spain. Artuke is run by the family of Miguel Blanco, who have been working the land in this Northern part of Rioja Alavesa for over a century. Now, the helm is taken by Miguel's two sons Arturo and Kike de Miguel which as you might guess, is where the name 'Artuke' is derived from. The aim of the brothers has been this: To create a new and individual wine which still respects the history of the wine region and of their family wine tradition. The result: A thoroughly modern style of Rioja, but not heavily extracted or heavily wooded in style.
