Winemaker Jean Smit has produced a delicious dry Riesling from the Habibi Farm vineyard in Elgin, where the ancient Bokkeveld soils are rich in shale and clay. Intense lime fruit on the nose with subtle stony minerality and a wonderful array of floral aromas. The palate exhibits classically fresh Riesling acidity with thirst quenching ripe lemon and lime flavours, all conveyed by a lovely rounded texture. Only 1300 bottles made. L&S (Jul 2024)

Moya Meaker
Canadian businessman and former owner of Bordeaux’s Chateau Gaby, David Curl married South African born Genevieve Hamilton-Brown which ultimately led them to Elgin where they acquired a farm called Habibi, planted mainly to apples but also including small parcels of Pinot Noir and Shiraz, the resulting wines named after Genevieve’s late mother Moya Meaker, who was crowned Miss South Africa in 1959.
