'This is the missing Grand Cru from Puligny' says Henri with a smile. This is certainly the real deal - with energy, power, drive and delicacy. Everything here in great harmony. Classically pure and powerful Puligny nose, with a gentle amount of the hallmark Mouchère struck-match. Softer on the palate, energetic, but a little creamier and more immediate than some of its stablemates. Purring. Real delicacy in this wine. Pears, orange peel, with a hint of acacia blossom and spice – this is so refined. Superb. L&S (Nov 2023)

In 2022 a better allocation than in the frosted 2021 vintage, Charles Lea of Lea & Sandeman tells me, as was the case with many domaines and many importers. Cask sample. Extremely well-judged hint of struck match to accompany the spice of the oak and the tart tang of the citrus. Intense, mouth-watering. Drive, length and precision. But it is very expensive. Mid yellow, with a biscuity touch. Seems unsubtle until you get to the palate which is super powerful but also with subtlety. This Monopole vineyard comprises four distinct terroirs though they are always assembled. An electric backbone stops the power overturning the balance. Yellow fruit, and then an extraordinary, indeed grand cru, weight. Incisive white fruit finish. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: December 2023. Drinking range: 2030 - 2038 Rating: ***** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Jan 2024)
Domaine Henri Boillot
A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.
The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
