Restrained and balanced nose with a hint of elderflower and blackberry leaf gives little indication of the fruit which is at once generous and surprisingly complex, and the texture which carries an initial hint of sweetness and a satisfying fullness. L&S (Oct 2024)

DELIVERY SERVICE
We offer free nationwide delivery on all orders over £150 (excluding Highlands & Islands). Express Delivery options also available. The 2023 Silex is round, supple and an unusually sumptuous style of Sancerre. This is open and approachable but still pure, clear and free of added sulfites. There's nice flesh with a lovely stony acidity, flavors of lemon, honey tea and chamomile. This hails from a large flint-rich block, so it's one of the Delaporte's bigger single-vineyard cuvées and is usually picked first. Drinking range: 2025 - 2028 Rating: 90 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (Aug 2025)
Domaine Delaporte
Patrick and I first visited Vincent Delaporte in 1986, a memorable end to a long day, we finished by tasting older and older red and white Sancerres. His wines were in Steven Spurrier's selection for the Caves de la Madeleine, where I had worked several years earlier, and the London end of which Patrick was running at the time. They have featured in the Lea & Sandeman selection since our very first list. The domaine passed to Vincent's son Jean-Yves and his wife Nathalie, and now their son Matthieu is in charge, after a 'stage' at L&S in the summer of 2012, and taken over the winemaking role. They have recently incorporated the vines of Matthieu's uncle, giving them three new jewels in the crown, decent holdings in the Monts Damnés and La Côte d'Amigny (also known as 'La Grande Côte'(white) and Cul de Beaujeu (red).
Matthieu has taken the domaine in the direction of organic farming, although he still hesitates over going for certification. He has stopped buying new barrels, and stopped using cultured yeasts, sometimes allowing malolactic fermentation to occur. Levels of sulphur are kept to the barest minimum. (Charles Lea.)
NSPCC Fine Wine Challenge | 2026
The 30th Anniversary NSPCC Fine Wine Challenge Collection.
Last month, we gathered in London for the 30th Anniversary of the NSPCC Fine Wine Challenge. It was a spectacular evening where the Lea & Sandeman team poured over 2,500 glasses of wine to blind-taste for a room full of eager, competitive palates.
It was a brilliant success, raising over £250,000 for Childline.
To celebrate this milestone, we have assembled a 6-bottle case containing half a dozen of the exceptional wines poured during the quiz, allowing you to recreate the challenge from the comfort of your own dining table.
A portion of the proceeds from every case sold will be donated directly to the NSPCC. These are not simple, entry-level wines designed to be easily guessed. We selected complex, profound expressions from some of our most revered estates to truly test the room.
What is Inside the Anniversary Collection:
2023 SANCERRE Silex Chavignol, Domaine Delaporte: An unusually sumptuous, flint-rich Sancerre with flavours of lemon, honey tea, and chamomile.
2023 ALBERELLI DI GIODO Carricante: The legendary Carlo Ferrini's Sicilian masterpiece. Grown at high altitude on Mount Etna, it crackles with white peach and delicate, salty mineral shadings.
2022 SAINT VÉRAN Les Pommards, Domaine Barraud: A beautifully powerful white Burgundy from 60-year-old vines, displaying excellent volume and a classic, mineral core.
2020 POMMARD Tavannes, Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot: A rich, plush, and fleshy Pinot Noir from an entirely massal-selected old-vine plot. Exceptionally concentrated and powerful.
2020 GIGONDAS Clos Derrière Vieille, Domaine Santa Duc: A stunningly elegant, biodynamic southern Rhône blend, aged in oak foudres and clay amphorae. Expect thyme, rosemary, and vivid mountain freshness.
2023 FLEURIE Cuvée Tardive, Clos de La Roilette: Velvety richness, fine ripe tannins, and a core of sweet kirsch liqueur. All you could ever need from Gamay, from an estate that charmingly still uses its 1920s racehorse label.
