Domaine de la Denante

Damien Martin has really taken on his inheritance and run at it with vigour. When we first visited, Damien was just joining the domaine of his father Robert, but he quite quickly took over and the domaine and our level of business with him as grown steadily since.

We began by choosing him as the supplier of our own-label 'White Burgundy', from the 2011 vintage, which has always been from his his 1.66 ha plot in Macon-Davayé. The Domaine now has 25 hectares of its own, 10 in Saint Véran, with special cuvées being made from 1.8ha in Maillettes, .6ha in Fournaises, and .29 ha in aux Cras. it also has 4 hectares in Verzé, 4 in la Roche Vineuse, 1 in Pouilly Fuissé (high up in Vergisson).

In addition Damien has planted 2 hectares of vines at the Château de Saint Leger in Charnay-lès-Macon, with 2 more to plant in 2026, and gradually building up to 10. He is in partnership with the owner of the Château in this business. Busy Boy!

'Very Good Value' Burgundy selection

Just when you think Burgundy is getting a tad expensive, some other upward pressures are applied to prices - small yields and a weak Sterling are the current factors. Luckily for you, there are merchants out there (or here, to be precise) with the nouse to seek out good value even in a region where good value can feel hard to come by. Here's a fine selection of our Very Good Value (VGV) red and whites - not necessarily cheap enough to tempt the less discerning away from the supermarket shelves, but it does mean that us ordinary mortals can still afford to drink Burgundy, just.

Spring Starter Collection

There is a specific moment every year when the grey sky finally cracks, the air softens, and the heavy, brooding red wines of winter suddenly feel entirely out of place. As the evenings begin to stretch and the promise of the first al-fresco lunch becomes a reality, the social calendar inevitably starts to fill up.
To mark the change of the season, we have curated a premium 12-bottle collection designed to dust off the palate and refresh your cellar. Rather than a random assortment, we have selected twelve spectacular wines from our absolute favourite independent growers, showcasing a range of styles that represent the benchmark expressions of spring.
Starting with two sets of exceptional bubbles—because one bottle is never enough for your first spring dinner party—this case is the perfect host's secret weapon.
Highlights from the Spring Collection: Franck Bonville Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru NV: The celebratory fizz. Grown across three Grand Cru Côte des Blancs villages (Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger), this beautifully balanced Champagne offers creamy, fine bubbles with notes of lemon, grapefruit, and oyster shell.
2021 Black Chalk Wild Rose: The elegant ice-breaker. From the chalk soils of Hampshire's Test Valley, this 95-point Gold Trophy-winning English sparkling rosé blends Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. It is incredibly pure, with notes of tea roses and a long, salty mineral core.
2024 Sancerre Chavignol, Domaine Delaporte: The spring classic. The Delaporte family are masters of Sauvignon Blanc; under Matthieu Delaporte, they farm organically and keep sulphur to the barest minimum. This textured wine bursts with aromas of crushed chalk, orange blossom, and ripe citrus fruits.
2024 Valpolicella Classico, Ca' La Bionda: The bouncy red. A remarkable effort from this certified organic estate, offering a beautiful perfume of strawberries and cherries alongside a juicy, succulent palate of gently ripe, silky red fruit.
Alongside these four highlights, the 12-bottle case also includes outstanding seasonal selections like the saline Picpoul de Pinet from Domaine Reine Juliette, a bright Albariño from Adega dos Eidos, classic White Burgundy from Domaine de la Denante, and sophisticated Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan . You have endured the winter. Treat yourself to the ultimate spring starter kit and find your new seasonal favourites before everyone else loots the shelves.
