This is deeply impressive: full-bodied and intense, yet delivered with remarkable finesse and composure. One of the most striking aspects is the seamless integration of spirit. As Adrian Bridge pointed out while we tasted, around 20% of every glass began life as clear, strong spirit, yet here it feels almost invisible, woven effortlessly into the whole. The aromatics are layered and expansive, combining rich plum and deep red berry fruit with notes of spice and dried lavender. The palate carries super concentration, but also freshness, precision and energy, building steadily towards a finish that seems to roll on endlessly. Powerful yet controlled, this is a Taylor’s of immense potential and classic stature.
(Exceptionally low yields from many of the estate’s very old vines have shaped the wine this year, with some ancient parcels producing as little as 600 grams of fruit per vine. The resulting production is tiny by Taylor’s standards — just 5,000 cases, the smallest release in the house’s modern history, even below the 6,000 cases produced in 1992.)L&S (May 2026)

Taylor
Taylor, Fladgate and Yeatman is one of the oldest and largest port houses, and owns the renowned brands Fonseca, Fonseca-Guimaraens, Croft and Taylor. Based in Oporto and the Douro Valley, it is an independent company which is still family-owned and managed. Widely renowned for its vintage ports, which are blended from the finest wines from its three iconic 'quintas', Taylors is also credited with being the originator of the Late Bottled Vintage style of port.
