Less introverted and more approachable than in recent vintages, the 2025 La Garde reveals aromas of dark berries, cassis, mulberries, flowers and spice. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and enveloping, it’s built around a tense, structuring mid-palate framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a long, ethereal and perfumed finish. This is a strong effort. It's a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot. Rating: 91-93 Yohan Castaing, www.robertparker.com (Apr 2026)

Well structured fruits and tannins, nothing too intrusive, enjoyable balance, good length and grip, unfussy and easy to recommend. A clear example of how much work is being done at La Garde right now. 3.5ph, 39hl/ha yields, 30% new oak. Penelope Godefroy's first full vintage at Dourthe as director (a great year to read the difference between the terroirs). Harvest September 8 to 24. Drinking range: 2030 - 2048 Rating: 92 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (Apr 2026)

The 2025 La Garde is a very beautiful wine with lovely forward fruit and fine balance. Pretty bright red/purplish fruit, rose petal, pomegranate and blood orange all meld together seamlessly. Ripe, silky tannins and a closing floral burst extend the finish effortlessly. Drinking range: 2030 - 2040 Rating: 90-92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2026)

Château La Garde

Château La Garde is a medium-sized property with 47 hectares of vineyards in Pessac-Léognan, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The Cabernet-dominated red wines are soft, well structured and packed with smooth, ripe fruit which makes them very attractive young, though they also possess good medium-term cellaring potential. Bought by the dynamic Bordeaux merchant Dourthe in the 1980s, this gem of an estate displays the true Graves minerality underneath an exuberant cassis-and-plums aroma. After huge initial investment in the vineyard and cellar immense care is now lavished upon the wine itself, and any re-assessment of the Pessac-Léognan classification would surely see this wine elevated to Cru Classé status
