Ripe black cherries, chocolate, scorched earth, melted crayons, tobacco, and camphor all emerge from the 2025 Chateau Nenin, a classic Pomerol in the making. Based on 62% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon that is being raised in 40% new barrels. It is medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a round, lush, expansive mouthfeel, ample mid-palate volume, wonderful balance, and a great finish. The quality at Nenin continues to impress. A solid red with lots of berry and milk chocolate character and chewy tannins, but it’s still in balance, with a caressing texture and a flavorful finish. Follow this. Rating: 94-95 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2026)
The 2025 Nenin is packed with dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, mocha, cloves, new leather, and incense. Rich and voluptuous in the glass, the 2025 is all charm. This is a pretty extroverted vintage for Nenin, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Soft contours frame the long, juicy finish. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 Rating: 90-93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2026)
Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening. Black berry fruit, dark cherries, some nougat and herbal spice, underlaid with candied orange zest. Juicy, elegant, fresh heart cherries, extract-sweet core, fine, silky tannins, freshly structured, a delicate food companion, sure maturity potential. Rating: 96 Peter Moser, www.Falstaff.com (Apr 2026)
Château Nénin
Two things make Château Nenin standout from the rest of Pomerol – at 32ha it is considerably larger than most in in this crowded appellation; and Nenin has a real bona fide 19th Century château at its core rather than the more usual small shed. Infact it appears more along the lines of something one might find in the Haut-Médoc which is perhaps fitting as, since 1987, it has been in common ownership with Château Potensac and the great Saint Julien estate of Château Leoville Las Cases. As one might expect with such a noble stable-mate, quality has advanced rapidly in line with a lot of healthy investment in the estate. The vineyards are planted with 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon with an average age of around 30 years. The second wine is Fugue de Nenin.
