CHÂTEAU SÉNÉJAC

2025 Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Haut Médoc

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification Cru Bourgeois Supérieur
ABV 13.2%

The 2025 Sénéjac is immediately reassuringly classic in style, with a nose full of rounded, generous fruit - spiced plum, dark berries and that familiar Médoc warmth and charm. The palate feels a touch more serious this year, with impressive density and a gentle sense of grandeur, yet it never loses its energy or drinkability. Crunchy black fruit gives way to fresher red berry notes, alongside leafy herbs, graphite and pencil shavings that bring real 'claret' character and sophistication. Fine bite, lovely flow and plenty of freshness keep everything moving beautifully. A smart, characterful 'pocket rocket' of a 2025 Bordeaux. (52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc) L&S (Apr 2026)

The 2025 Sénéjac, aged in 25% new oak, has a well-defined, quite estuarine bouquet that opens in the glass. It evokes a sense of place already. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and quite grippy tannins, harmonious but quite "serious" in style. Good complexity and sapidity, this is a classy and attractive Sénéjac that should age well in bottle. A fine Haut-Médoc. Drinking range: 2032 - 2049 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2026)

Black fruit and fragranced notes on the nose. Smooth and supple, round and really excellently weighted, nothing out of place with plenty of minty cool freshness, licks of graphite, liquorice and wet stones with a softly chalky finish. Excellent bargain this year. Plenty to like, easy to drink with a really classic, approachable aspect. This stands out this year. 3.80pH. A yield of 30hl/ha. 5% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Drinking range: 2028 - 2036 Rating: 93 Georgie Hindle - Decanter (Apr 2026)

Château Sénéjac

So far south in the Haut-Médoc that it exists in splendid isolation, without vineyard neighbours, in the tiny settlement of Le Pian Médoc, is Château Sénéjac. The usual Bordelais long complicated history is crowned by the purchase of Sénéjac in 1999 by Lorraine Cordier, owner of Château Talbot. Since Lorraine’s death, Sénéjac has been managed by her sister Nancy Bignon Cordier with operations overseen by Alfred Tesseron and his team from Château Pontet Canet. There are 39ha of vineyard, in a single block, planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 35 years. The wines of Château Sénéjac offer splendid value and relatively early appeal.
