Fattoria di Magliano

Nestled in the hilly Italian countryside of Maremma Toscana with its vineyards descending towards the Tyrrhenian Sea from a height of 300m, The vineyards here offer some of the best views we know of the Tuscan coastline. It is a beautiful and yet still quite a wild place. La Fattoria di Magliano was set up in 1996 by Agostino Lenci. Agostino, fascinated by the history of the region and its centuries old wine-making traditions, sees his job and duty to safeguard nature – both wild and agricultural. Bringing in the expertise of Sassicaia's winemaker Graziana Grassini was a shrewd move and she still oversees the wine-making here with aplomb. Minimum intervention and now completely organic with certification from 2018 onwards, Agostino and his team are making smart and wonderfully characterful wines here from local varieties and some small productions of some very charming Super Tuscans too.

Nearly twenty-five years, on these beautiful vineyards are maturing and producing the best fruit of their lives, vine age and bio-dynamic practices means these wines now really are better than ever since the first harvest in 2003. And we should not forget that even when young these vineyards were producing wonderful fruit - the 2004 Poggio Bestiale was rated Italy's best Tuscan wine under £20 in Decanter magazine – quite an achievement for a wine with such a short history. The soil here is sandy with a good amount of clay, which combined with a good dose of sunshine and sea breeze, results in some really beautiful wines – full-flavoured, ripely rich but with a dynamic twang of acidity and pep that makes them just so drinkable.

Matthew Jukes Italian Mixed 12 | Offer

La Dozzina Italiana: The Matthew Jukes Highlights Collection
We are absolutely delighted to share critic Matthew Jukes glowing reviews of our Italian portfolio from his recent MoneyWeek column. As Jukes notes: The L&S team is extremely adept at sniffing out great value and authentic Italian superstars, and I heartily suggest you taste as many as you can.
While we could not squeeze his fabulous first fifteen into a single box, we have plucked out a handy dozen to make a very exciting mixed case. La Dozzina Italiana comprises a sextet of jaw-dropping beauties for the whites, completed by one electrifying Rosato and five spectacular reds. All of this is available for slightly less than our usual case price, offering a magnificent dive into the finest Italian viticulture.
The Whites:
2025 Pagliatura, Vermentino Toscana, Fattoria di Magliano: A gorgeous, effortlessly classy Vermentino with a zesty, sea-spray palate. It is the ultimate aperitif white.
2024 Friulano Visintini: A bold, juicy, white-pepper-spiked wine with more balance than is typically seen in this variety.
2024 Zuani Bianco: Kaleidoscopic, ever-changing and thrillingly balanced, tracking perfectly since the 2009 vintage.
2025 Cortese Bricco Bartolomeo La Colombera: A very clever wine that uses the Gavi grape Cortese to great effect at a magnificent price. It is one of the wisest if you like Gavi wines of the year so far.
2024 Kratos Fiano Luigi Maffini: Already a legendary wine, showcasing the stellar Fiano grapes sultry, near-tropical fruit cut with raucously dramatic volcanic minerality.
2024 Mofete Etna Bianco Palmento Costanzo: One of the most accurate and delicious Etna whites around. It offers incredible value for money compared to many Emperors new clothes Etna wines on the market.

2025 Illario Rosato, Fattoria di Magliano: It has all the drama and electricity you are looking for in this spine-tinglingly refreshing style of wine.
The Reds:
2024 Valpolicella Classico, Ca La Bionda: It covers a multitude of bases when it comes to food pairing. Served cool, this wine is a spectacular weapon in your gastro-armoury.

2023 Rosso di Montalcino, Ginestreto, Fuligni: Epic estates often produce Rossos that are medium-weight, drink earlier, and cost the right price. This 2023 is the finest we have ever tasted from this legendary producer. Do not miss out.
