Started in 1986 by the Delorme family, Domaine de la Mordorée has become one of the top estates in the Rhône, with arguably the most consistent quality. The word 'Mordorée', literally 'bronze' or 'golden-brown' is one of the many poetic names for a woodcock, the symbol of the domaine. Other such names include the cuvée names - 'La Belle Voyageuse' (the beautiful traveller), and 'La Dame Rousse' (the russet lady). Founding winemaker Christophe Delorme's objective was to be unintrusive and maintain total respect for his terroir and the fruit it produces, striving to achieve a perfect balance between concentration, terroir and balance.
The domaine consists of 55 Hectares, on 38 different parcels, providing a rich, wide range of soils and micro-climates. The whole domaine has been certified organic since 2007.
Following Christophe's untimely death in 2015, his wife and daughter, Madeleine and Ambre, have taken on the running of the domaine, ably assisted by Rémy Chauvet, who was the cellarmaster under Christophe. As Jeb Dunnuck has put it in the Wine Advocate, 'the estate is obviously still in incredibly capable hands'.
Eco-Warriors Mixed Case
The Everyday Eco-Warriors Mixed Case: Unapologetic Luxury, Zero Guilt
As extreme weather and shifting climates continue to disrupt global harvests, consumer demand for climate-resilient and additive-free wines is surging. For the growers we work with, sustainability is not a marketing exercise; it is a matter of both survival and integrity. These producers prove that true terroir expression relies entirely on the biological health of the soil. To make things wonderfully simple, we have assembled a 12-bottle mixed case featuring our favourite sustainable, organic, and biodynamic producers[cite: 13]. It is a complete, guilt-free tasting tour of the worlds most resilient vines, ready to pour this weekend.
Inside the Eco-Warriors Case:
- 1 x LOUIS ROEDERER Collection 246 NV: A pioneer among the Grandes Marques, cultivating their vast holdings using certified organic and biodynamic practices. The Collection 246 offers exceptionally fine bubbles, a thirst-quenching chalky salinity, and a remarkably creamy yet bone-dry texture.
- 1 x CRÉMANT DE LOIRE Brut Nature, Château de Plaisance: Representing the vanguard of the Anjou Noir, this estate has been certified organic since 1995 and fully biodynamic since 2008.
- 2 x 2023 ZELLENBERG, Domaine Marcel Deiss: From an estate famous for returning to the ancient Alsatian tradition of complantation. By co-planting multiple grape varieties, the vineyard acts as a self-regulating ecosystem, creating a natural hedge against climate volatility.
- 2 x 2022 MAINQUÉ Chardonnay, Bodega Chacra: Hailing from Patagonia, this estate stands firmly on the artisan frontline of climate champions, crafting energetic wines that prove unapologetic luxury and zero ecological guilt can sit happily in the same glass.
- 1 x 2025 TAVEL Rosé La Dame Rousse, Domaine de la Mordorée: A profoundly serious gastronomic rosé buffered by vivacious acidity with bursts of pink grapefruit, wild strawberry, and warm exotic spice.
- 1 x 2023 BOURGUEIL Côte 50, Domaine Yannick Amirault: This estate became an anti-conformist pioneer in the region, weaning its vineyards off synthetic inputs to officially achieve organic certification in 2009.
- 2 x 2023 CÔTES DU RHÔNE Rouge, Domaine de la Mordorée: Grown using biodynamic farming on a Mistral-swept valley, which yields a red wine of incredible freshness despite the baking heat of the Southern Rhone.
- 2 x 2021 CHIANTI CLASSICO, Castagnoli: Farmed organically on high-altitude, dry-stone terraces, forcing Sangiovese roots deep into the galestro bedrock. This yields a highly elegant expression of high-altitude Sangiovese with a core of woodland fruits, red cherry, and complex notes of balsamic spice.
