CRÉMANT DE LOIRE
Brut Domaine des Hauts Perrays
|Grapes||Cab Franc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay|
Consider choosing this first-rate crémant over a third-rate champagne. It smells of honeyed toast, tastes fresh and is moreish. Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph (Dec 2021)

Domaine des Hauts Perrays Crémant de Loire is simply superb. A crémant made in the Loire from chenin blanc, chardonnay and cabernet franc grapes, it has a touch of the warm brioche and honeyed scent you might look for on a champagne with a nervosity that makes it feel refreshing and alert. When crémant can be as good as this it’s a disgrace to opt for champagne just so that you can say champagne is what you’re serving. Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph (Nov 2019)
From a small family-run Domaine in the heart of Chenin Blanc territory, (Coteaux du Layon) this is a beautifully crafted Crémant de Loire. Traditionally made (bottle-fermented) sparkling wine which is vinified from a large proportion of Chenin Blanc, with some Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc - all grown on a mix of schist, clay, and quartz. L&S
Top quality crémant made mainly from chenin blanc, delivering crunchy apple and lime zest, mineral-fresh, pure and clean. It’s a fine aperitif on a hot summer’s evening and gives many “bargain” champagnes a run for their money.Susy Atkins, The Telegraph (Jul 2021)
Domaine des Hauts Perrays
Owned and managed by Gabin Charnier and Stéphane Valenti, Domaine des Hauts Perrays is situated in the Loire Valley, more specifically in the region of Coteaux du Layon. Due to its proximity to the river Layon, the soil at Domaine des Hauts Perrays contains much schist and quartz, which lends a distinct mineral characteristic to the wines produced here. The estate is certified HEV (High Environmental Value) which promotes environmentally-friendly practices. Looking after the land and ensuring the best, cleanest fruit is selected by handpicking to go into these super value wines.
The Loire Valley is overlooked at this time of year, but really is the total quintessence of Christmas feast wine. Crémant de Loire is a fantastic Champagne alternative, boasting many of its cousin’s toasty, honeyed brioche flavours. Muscadet and Pouilly-Fumé are not only incredible with smoked salmon, cheese nibble or any of the snacks you might have prior to dinner, but also are absolute table pleasers (who doesn’t love a refined Sauvignon Blanc…) and Cabernet Franc is a grape which, in both these guises, is perfect with turkey. Our Anjou rouge is bright red berry, like your cranberry sauce and our Chinon, more savoury and rich, for when the gravy goes on.
Finish this off with a well-aged bottle of Coteaux du Layon, one of the world’s great sweet wine appellations. It’s not only affordable, but creamy, buttery and not nearly as cloying as some of the more traditional options.
