When you want to truly treat yourself, there are few things more satisfying than a brilliant, properly chilled bottle of White Burgundy. For this experience, we consistently look to the Barraud family.
Widely considered the pinnacle of the region, renowned critic Allen Meadows (Burghound) has stated: 'no one makes better wine in the Mâconnais than Barraud'.
Now run by Julien and Anaïs Barraud, this 11-hectare organic estate produces some of the most thrilling, generous, and beautifully textured Chardonnay we know.
The vines are farmed high up in Vergisson, nestled between the dramatic limestone cliffs of Solutré and Vergisson. Because of this altitude, their wines possess a later-ripening, solid structure and a profound mineral force. The family closely follows biodynamic tenets, right down to only bottling on a waning moon, to capture the absolute purity of the terroir.
The quality is so undeniable that from the 2023 vintage, four of their vineyards were officially upgraded to Premier Cru status.
To showcase the depth of their work, we have curated a highly limited 6-bottle tasting case. It is the perfect excuse to roast a chicken this Sunday and indulge in everyday luxury.
What's Inside the Mixed Case:2023 Mâcon Vergisson La Roche: Grown on very thin soils over hard limestone rock, this wine delivers explosive, soaring energy with incredible fresh drive.
2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Châtaigniers: From the highest plot on the limit of the Pouilly appellation. Expect a lifted aroma of fresh mint giving way to a firm, juicy pineapple bounce and a brilliant saline tang.
2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes En Buland: Sourced from a beautiful 65-year-old vineyard facing northeast. It would almost certainly be a Premier Cru if it faced south, as the quality is remarkable year on year. It is a serious, focused wine built with real power and breadth.
2022 Saint Véran En Crèches, 2021 & 2022 Saint Véran Les Pommards: The case is rounded out with two vintages of their powerful, dense, and mineral-driven Saint-Véran.L&S
