XO Grande Champagne Cognac, around 20 years old. Classic Frapin vanilla and warm fruit richness but with a more tertiary, old cedar edge, hints of dry spice; complex and very satisfying. Whilst it suggests itself as a suitable accompaniment to a fine cigar, it is equally enjoyable without. L&S (Feb 2019)

This is Château Fontpinot’s counterpoint, aged 20 years in humid cellars, and much rounder, richer and sweeter in style. There’s candied orange and ginger and mulled spices on both the nose and the palate, and citrus throughout, with — of course — prominent notes of cigar box.
