The Benoit Marguet Single Village Terroir Case

Terroir is finally taking centre stage in Champagne. For so long, large negociants have dominated the region by homogenising grapes and selling them under a single brand. However, pioneers like Benoit Marguet are shifting the focus toward expressing specific terroirs. This extremely limited mixed case, with only six available, features six single-village Champagnes from the 2020 vintage. Made entirely from Grand Cru villages, it serves as a masterclass in Champagne terroir.

Inside the Terroir Case:

  • 2020 Benoit Marguet Oger Grand Cru: 100 percent Chardonnay. This village produces rounder, fleshier, and aromatic Blanc de Blancs due to its bowl-like shape capturing the sun.

  • 2020 Benoit Marguet Chouilly Grand Cru: 100 percent Chardonnay. Sourced from deep soils with a north-east exposure, these wines are expansive, silky, and broad while retaining the signature chalk of the region.

  • 2020 Benoit Marguet Avize Grand Cru: 100 percent Chardonnay. Grown on incredibly deep chalk with almost non-existent soil, yielding ultra-fine, saline, and precise renditions of Chardonnay.

  • 2020 Benoit Marguet Ambonnay Grand Cru: 58 percent Pinot Noir and 42 percent Chardonnay. Benefiting from shallow soil and deep chalk, this expression is precise and powerful.

  • 2020 Benoit Marguet Bouzy Grand Cru: 100 percent Pinot Noir. Grown in a south-facing amphitheatre, producing a rich, ripe, and fruity Pinot Noir.

  • 2020 Benoit Marguet Verzenay Grand Cru: 100 percent Pinot Noir. Facing largely north, this terroir pushes the fruit into the red currant and blood orange spectrum, resulting in a steel-cut, high-tension Pinot.
