TAITTINGER

Prelude Brut NV

Grapes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Champagne
ABV 12%

Prelude is the culmination of Taittinger's desire to produce a Grand Cru blend, on par with Vintage Champagne. A 50/50 blend of Chardonnay from the Cote des Blancs and Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, it is made to the elegant house style. A brilliant pale yellow with silvery highlights, its bubbles form a lasting, delicate creamy mousse whilst subtle, fresh floral aromas of elderflower with slightly spicy overtones follow through to an initial fresh, citrus palate, finishing long and rich with hints of peach. L&S (Mar 2005)

50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir all from Grand Cru villages. Although this is labelled as a non vintage, it is actually all from one vintage (although the representative couldn't tell me which!). Plenty of zest and lime, with a slightly peppery reductive energy. Over the Brut Réserve, though, Prélude shines with some roasted apple and hazelnut depth, fuller in fruit intensity but still held with grapefruit acidity and a touch of grip. An underrated wine in the portfolio. Tom Hewson Rating: 92 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Dec 2022)

Bright, attractive, directly fruity style here with an array of white peaches, lemons and grapefruit. Super fine, elegant palate with plenty of flavor on offer. This has nailed the aperitif brief! Drink now. Rating: 92 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Aug 2018)

(a 50/50 blend of Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Mailly, Bouzy and Ambonnay; around 10 g/l dosage; L33830X01300): Pale gold. Vibrant, mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of buttered toast and honey. Toasty orange and pear flavors are braced by juicy acidity, picking up a suggestion of chamomile with air. Finishes dry and precise, with repeating mineral and toast notes.
