‘the best Marquis de Terme ever…’
After enjoying a long weekend, the Bordelais came rather lackadaisically back to work with a few more releases of #Bdx15.
A couple of minor Pauillacs could offer good value to the drinker; Château Lynch Moussas gets 92-94 from Neal Martin ‘ It is a very fine follow-up to the 2014 last year, with a freshness and class that I did not find conveyed ten years ago.‘ Château Pedesclaux (90-92 Neal Martin) is one of the first wines released that are available in multi-format cases; you get 4 75cl bottles, 2 magnums and one double-magnum all in the the same wooden case – find out more here.
The other of today’s releases available in this multiformat case is Château Latour Martillac (92-94, Neal Martin ‘a superb Pessac-Léognan from the estate – one of the best in recent years’)
There were also a couple of Margaux, including Château Marquis de Terme. The 2015 is ‘best ever’ according to James Suckling (94-95), and Antonio Galloni too says ‘the 2015 is a winner from Marquis de Terme’ (90-93). Neal Martin was also very taken with it ‘This is a very fine Margaux that should age well over the next 15-20 years’. The estate has celebrated by raising its price by 25%, making this the most expensive Marquis de terme ever, but perhaps they can be excused given the notes and the reputation of Margaux in the 2015 vintage – you will have to decide.
Also out of Margaux today is Château Monbrison (another Margaux – 94, Tim Atkin MW). This is a wine that won’t need to be cellared for too long and will provide good drinking within the next twenty years.
