Balance, elegance and aromatic definition best describe this lovely vintage of Lupicaia, with all the hallmarks of Terriccio as it exudes notes of balsamic and pencil lead. L&S (Mar 2005)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

The '00 version of Lupicaia is not a big showy wine. Its virtues are balance, elegance and perfect aromatic definition. The nose offers distinct notes of ripe dark berries, as well as vegetal hints, suggestions of pencil lead and the usual balsamic tone. Tre Bicchieri. 2003Gambero Rosso (Mar 2005)

Very deep crimson. Very fresh and fine bordeaux blend. Tastes as though it had been grown somewhere higher than 120-150 m above the Mediterranean in the distance. Lovely balance and fully evolved. Rating: 18 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Oct 0010)

Castello del Terriccio

The Castello del Terriccio is beautifully positioned around twenty-five kilometres north of Bolgheri, with commanding views towards Corsica. The 60 hectares of vines enjoy wonderful exposure, overlooking the sea, benefitting from its brightness and cooling breezes. The vineyards are surrounded by 'maquis' and eucalyptus trees, which as well as protecting them, also contribute to the aromas and scents that so characterise the Terriccio wines.

Planted predominately with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah, the wines are made by consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who has to date brought thirteen 'Tre Bicchiere' awards to the estate.

These are wines that can be approached almost immediately and yet age so well over a decade and more.

The estate continues in the hands of Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano Rossi di Medelana who took over after the extraordinarily charming Cav. Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana Serafini Ferri (or 'Pucci' as he was fondly known) who died at the end of 2019. Vittorio has the same team around him working in the cellars and the vineyards and the estate is going from strength to strength.
