2006 du Château Pichon Lalande Pauillac

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Village Pauillac
ABV 12.5%

Nose is slightly irony, suggesting a lack of ripeness, but the palate is sweet fruit in a dry tannic frame, salty minerals, tannins a little bit gravelly. There is something a little disjointed about this, but it feels as though it will come together with time. Rating: 87-87 L&S (Apr 2007)

Bright ruby-red. Fresh aromas of currant, minerals and herbs. Seamless and sweet, with moderate density to the black raspberry flavor. No shortage of verve or complexity. Finishes with rather gentle tannins and good length. "Ten years ago most of this fruit would have gone into the grand vin," noted marketing director Gildas d'Ollone. Rating: 86-89 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (May 2007)

Good fruit, with licorice and berry character. Medium-bodied, with a slightly hollow midpalate, but it's refined. Rating: 85-88 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator (May 2007)

Tasted at the château. I must say that I find this disappointing. The fruit is suppressed on the nose, which displays some under-ripeness. The medium-bodied palate is fleshy with hints of chocolate, blackberry and cedar. It seems to lack structure and persistency on the finish: comes across a little skeletal. Rating: 81-83 Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com (Apr 2007)

Second wine of Pichon Lalande. Very dark crimson. Rather mild nose with a little purple ink and great sweetness on the finish, but also chewy and angular. Yes, quite light and feminine but it could do with a bit more weight, I think. I actually found the Haut Médoc Ch Bernadotte - tasted immediately before it - more impressive in context. Just slightly scrawny on the finish. 2012-19 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2007)
