TASSINAIA

2006 Castello del Terriccio

Grapes Cab Sauv, Merlot, Sangiovese
Colour Red
Origin Italy, Tuscany
ABV 14%

A truly spectacular vintage of Tassinaia and one which may even eclipse the magnificent 2001 and 2004 vintages. This is drinking beautifully now, but can happily be kept and enjoyed over the next decade - if you can bear to resist! L&S (Aug 2011)

Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. Lovely appetising stuff, great balance and zest. Compelling. 2010-2016 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2011)

Good vintage here. Dark crimson. Scented and more obviously Cabernet than either 2004 or 2005 on the nose. Very succulent and juicy with very fine spine. Still quite chewy tannins but lovely velvety fruit. 14% Drink 2011-2016 Rating: 17.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (May 2011)

The 2006 Tassinaia flows from the glass with beautifully delineated layers of dark fruit, mocha, espresso, licorice, leather and spices. This is an unusually ripe, expansive Tassinaia with enough richness and sheer pedigree to challenge some of the estate’s more expensive bottlings. Sweet grilled herbs and spices add a final flourish on the powerful close, with notes of brightness from the Sangiovese that act as a foil to some of the darker nuances in the wine. In 2006 Tassinaia is nothing short of magnificent. Tassinaia is Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Rating: 93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2010)

Castello del Terriccio

The Castello del Terriccio is beautifully positioned around twenty-five kilometres north of Bolgheri, with commanding views towards Corsica. The 60 hectares of vines enjoy wonderful exposure, overlooking the sea, benefitting from its brightness and cooling breezes. The vineyards are surrounded by 'maquis' and eucalyptus trees, which as well as protecting them, also contribute to the aromas and scents that so characterise the Terriccio wines.

Planted predominately with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah, the wines are made by consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who has to date brought thirteen 'Tre Bicchiere' awards to the estate.

These are wines that can be approached almost immediately and yet age so well over a decade and more.

The estate continues in the hands of Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano Rossi di Medelana who took over after the extraordinarily charming Cav. Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana Serafini Ferri (or 'Pucci' as he was fondly known) who died at the end of 2019. Vittorio has the same team around him working in the cellars and the vineyards and the estate is going from strength to strength.
