'This smells of rock - very mineral' says Bernard. It seems to have the fruit power of the Mazoyeres, but then its something else, delicate, fine, essence or spirit of wine. Or essence of mineral translated by grape. Absolute pin-point balance. And yet this is made with 100% whole bunches. Very, very long. L&S (Dec 2009)

The estate's 2008 Mazis-Chambertin is drop-dead gorgeous from start to finish. A dazzling, captivating bouquet melds into dark fruit, mint, flowers and sweet spices as this powerful, complex wine grows in the glass. All of the elements continue to build towards the undeniable, explosive finish. This is a hugely impressive, towering wine from Dugat-Py. Rating: 95 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2013)

A very ripe nose that is pretty yet distinctly sauvage in character displays notes of rose petal, plum, earth and a smoked jerky element that finds its way over to the rich, brooding and very firmly constituted flavors that possess ample energy and tension on the stony and strikingly long finale. This is a knockout built for the long haul. Drink 2028+ Rating: 93-96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Oct 2010)

Good bright red-ruby. Wild earthy perfume of blueberry, cassis, violet and bitter chocolate. At once lush and sappy, with outstanding energy to the intense flavors of blackberry, licorice, violet and dark chocolate complicated by pepper and minerals. This really floods the palate with flavor but this wine is classically dry and quite backward. Finishes extremely long, with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and a piquant peppery quality. This, too, will require a decade or more of cellaring. Rating: 93-96 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar 2010)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
