2010 1er Cru Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py
|Sub-district||Côte de Nuits|
From Fonteny, Corbeau, Perrieres - all round Mazis. Very fresh 'almost mentholated' says Bernard. Taut and powerful, really driven style which is so determined on the palate it is almost impossible not to swallow. Black fruit, mineral and muscly and toned, a real gymnast of a wine. L&S (Dec 2011)

Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py
Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru is flat-out gorgeous. The fruit tends towards the darker end of the spectrum, with shades of red cherries and berries. Deep floral and spiced notes develop in the glass, adding lift and brightness through to the energetic finish. This is totally refined, delicate and pure. I loved it for the purity and definition of the fruit. The 1er Cru is equal parts Fonteny, Les Corbeaux and Les Perrières, vinified with 75% stems. The wine was aged in 100% new barrels, all of which it handles with uncommon grace. Rating: 92-94 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2013)
(from Fontenys, Corbeaux and La Perriere, all in the Mazis-Chambertin neighborhood; this and the rest of Dugat's crus are aging in all new barrels): Good deep red-ruby. Aromas of crushed blackberry, licorice, violet and pepper. Juicy and tight, with a firm edge (from the SO2?) to the flavors of black fruits, spices and mint. More refined than the Coeur du Roi, and quite spicy on the lingering aftertaste. Rating: 91 - 93 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jan 2012)
(from three Gevrey 1ers surrounding Mazis – Corbeaux, Fontenys and La Perrière; vinified with 65% stems). An elegant, pure and attractively ripe nose speaks of black berry liqueur and dried floral notes with a background hint of the sauvage. There is a terrific inner mouth perfume to the notably spicy and mineral-driven flavors that possess an explosion of sap that renders the firm tannins almost invisible on the austere, balanced and equally explosive finish that is clearly constructed for the long haul. This offers excellent grip on the palate saturating finale and I very much like the underlying sense of tension. 2025+ Rating: 92 - 94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2012)
Fonteny, Les Corbeaux, Perrières. 60% whole bunch. 100% new oak. Very aromatic and fresh. Soaring perfume and very ripe blackberry flavours underneath, Very flattering though no sweetness. Pure intense Gevrey fruit which deserves a bit of time to expand. Super clean and fresh. 2016-2024 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2012)
