Under a slightly edgy nose thre's a very ripe (not overripe) fruit. A weight of mineral and succulent, polished black juice. Blackberries and blueberries, wonderfully mouthfilling and tangily more-ish at the same time. L&S (Mar 2017)

(from a .75 ha vineyard worked manually and with a horse; vinified with 50% stems). The altitude of the vineyard shows here as there is exemplary freshness to the cassis, red currant and mineral-inflected nose. Wild aromas of black cherry, mocha and game, lifted by minerals and menthol. Silky and thick but given shape by firm acidity and minerality. Like the Vosne villages, this is a bit dried today by the recent sulfiting, but finishing spice and pepper notes give it a tactile, lively quality. finish. The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles bursts from the glass with deeply pitched spices and a mineral inflected bouquet that is breathtaking. The Evocelles is endowed with tons of intensity in its fruit and an equal amount of energy. Tar, licorice, game, violets and blueberries wrap around the masculine, virile finish. This is a fabulous wine with plenty of Dugay-Py signature stamped all over it. The Evocelles was made with 60% whole clusters. Rating: 92-94 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
