'I smell whole bunches first, then floral' says Bernard. I get a wine which has a lift and a mineral power which transcends all talk of fruit and tannins, even though both are here in quantity. Wonderfully harmonious and complete despite obvious power. Deep dark and mysterious as well as completely airy and translucent, the extraordinary dichotomy of a great wine. L&S (Dec 2011)

The 2010 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is deep in color. It has a rather rumbunctious peppermint-tinged nose with dense black fruit, what feels like slightly zealous use of new wood. The palate has an attractive sweet core of fruit, quite plush with pliant tannins, touches of espresso and dark chocolate slightly obscuring the terroir expression on the finish. Solid, if missing some charm. Tasted blind at the Wallace brothers' Xmas dinner. Drinking range: 2025 - 2042 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Mar 2023)

The 2010 Mazis-Chambertin is like candy. It boasts the silkiest, most elegant of tannins in support of expressive red fruit. Floral notes develop later, adding considerable lift and brightness. The finish is breathtaking for its seamless radiance. In 2010 the Mazis is all class and elegance. Dugat used 100% whole clusters on the Mazis. Rating: 96-98 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2013)

Bright ruby. A wild animal on the nose, showing slightly decadent scents of dark berries, rare steak, rose, violet and licorice. Like liquid silk on the superconcentrated palate, with wild, gamey black fruit flavors lifted by a peppery element. Conveys a sense of solidity without any corners. A bit like a blacker version of a Cote-Rotie, finishing with outstanding verve and huge, noble tannins. Dugat made a bit less Mazis in 2010 than in 2011: about 30 hectoliters per hectare, vs. 33. Rating: 95 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar 2013)
