2010 Grand Cru Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py
|Sub-district||Côte de Nuits|
'I smell whole bunches first, then floral' says Bernard. I get a wine which has a lift and a mineral power which transcends all talk of fruit and tannins, even though both are here in quantity. Wonderfully harmonious and complete despite obvious power. Deep dark and mysterious as well as completely airy and translucent, the extraordinary dichotomy of a great wine. L&S (Dec 2011)

The 2010 Mazis-Chambertin is like candy. It boasts the silkiest, most elegant of tannins in support of expressive red fruit. Floral notes develop later, adding considerable lift and brightness. The finish is breathtaking for its seamless radiance. In 2010 the Mazis is all class and elegance. Dugat used 100% whole clusters on the Mazis. Rating: 96-98 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2013)
Captivating aromas and flavors of wild blackberry, violet, minerals and tropical dark chocolate. Fine-grained and impressively intense; at once silky and imploded, with terrific energy giving a light touch to the middle palate. Finishes with huge, dusty tannins and outstanding sappy persistence. The standout in the cellar today. Rating: 94 - 97 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jan 2012)
(from .25 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines planted at a density of 14,000/ha in Mazis-Bas – vinified with 100% stems). This is even more intensely floral with distinct sauvage notes to the very ripe and cool black cherry, spiced plum and Gevrey style pungent earth aromas. This is a big and muscular wine of almost forbidding proportions that is shaped by an imposingly firm tannic spine on the marvelously concentrated and explosive finish that seems to go on and on. In fact even when the aftertaste seems to come to an end it suddenly returns and lasts again for an impressive period. In sum, this is flat out stunning and could rival the fantastic 2009 version. 2030+ Rating: 94 - 97 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2012)
100% new oak. 100% whole bunch. Very aromatic and perfumed. Juicy with lots of fruit in the middle just a slightly tough, almost bitter, note on the end for now. Nowhere near ready. Hold on for more integration. 2020-2030 Rating: 17.5 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2012)
Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py
Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
